Progress on 3rd painting from bottom.

I hadn't looked at this painting in awhile (probably years). The original painting was done in acrylics, and based on Helen's suggestion, I decided over paint using oils. I have some photographs from my trip to Iceland that I'm using as inspiration for color and textures.
5/26/16 - So this is an example of a time when I'm not sure whether I like the direction that it's going. I like the lower section, but I think I've lost some of the dynamism of the middle and upper section. Sigh. Thoughts?

  1. Oh yes!!! Orangy reds against the aqua. This is the one I imagined you scumbling over or rubbing other colors into to emphasize the texture. It feels like flight! Love the expanded pallet. How big is this?

  2. This is a standard canvas size - I think about 9x11? Most of my canvases are pretty small - I get intimidated about working on large canvases.

  3. Humm, as a dancer I would expect you to enjoy the gesture possible when working on a larger canvas while standing. Then you can paint from your shoulder rather than your wrist. I think you might like it. Do you use an easel? Might be worth a try. ;-)

  4. Oh, and I love the sense of flight in this piece now.
